Balsam Mountain Inn

Rest, read, ramble & romp in our mountains! The century-old Balsam Mountain Inn, a National Historic Place, is nestled high in the Great Balsam Mountains, five minutes from the Parkway at Balsam Gap, Milepost 443. Built in 1908 to serve the highest railroad station in the east, the inn was restored in 1991 and now welcomes travelers with fifty cheerful rooms, broad, 100-foot porches, a large library and delicious dining. Our ”Art in the Mountains” hallway gallery features the works of local artists and craftsmen, and the inn hosts regular musical events, including its long-running Songwriters in the Round series. Rooms are individually decorated and offer either king-size or two double beds, with larger rooms and multi-room suites available. Breakfast is included in all room rates, and dinner and Sunday lunch are served as well, with food from many local providers - including famous and fresh Sunburst Trout - and beer and wine from a thoughtful list. Friendly, helpful staff will help you make the most of your visit to the southern mountains! At Parkway exit, turn right onto U.S. 23/74, drive 100 yards and turn left into Balsam. Follow signs to the Balsam Mountain Inn. For more information or to make your reservation, call 828-456-9498 or visit
